Batman Beyond is the continuation of the DC Comics Batman legacy that first aired in January 1999. The story takes place in future Gotham where after aging Bruce Wayne suffers a mild heart attack decides to hang up the Batman mantle and closes the Batcave. Fast forwarding 20 years, after helping Terry McGinnis from the Jokerz gang, Bruce is helped back to the Wayne mansion where Terry discovers the Batcave. Returning home, Terry finds out that his father has been murder and goes back borrows the batsuit to bring justice. Bruce Wayne first refuses to help Terry but eventually see that Gotham needs Batman again and lets Terry become the new Batman.
