Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles originally started off as a parody comic book published by Mirage Studios in 1984. The First cartoon series began in December of 1987 as a 5 part mini series. The Turtles hit the big screen in 1990 as a live action film closely following the comic book.

The four turtles are Leonardo (blue mask using ninjaken blades), Donatello (purple mask using a bo staff), Raphael (red mask using a pair of sai), and Michelangelo (orange mask using a pair of nunchaku). Their Sensei and adoptive father is Master Splinter (a Mutant rat).
