War of the Worlds is science fiction novel written by Herbert George Wells in 1898. A radio adaptation of War of Worlds, directed by Orson Welles, first aired on October 30, 1938. A film adaptation was first released in 1953. Another film adaptation, directed by Steven Spielberg, was released in 2005. The plot of the story is that aliens come and invade Earth in fighting machines known as Tripods with little hope of survival for the human race. A surprise twist of how the aliens are defeated ends the invasion.
